PMIC's DC to DC switch controller is a high-efficiency voltage regulator IC that is configured to generate output voltage higher (step-up or boost) or lower (step-down or buck) than the input power supply. Other topologies may include step-up/down, flyback, forward, Cuk, SEPIC, full-bridge, half-bridge and push-pull. These devices are different from linear regulators that require a minimum voltage and "burn off" excess voltage.
